Queen of the Valley Hospital consists of two projects, the Imaging Center and the Wellness Center. Riechers Spence & Associates was contracted to provide expanded parking that would replace stalls lost to the expansion, and RSA realized an opportunity for QVH to have a better working site by integrating these two projects. Expanding the parking between both sites resulted in a more cohesive plan and better facility for the hospital and community.
The biggest challenge for both sites was existing impaired storm drain facilities. The facility to the northwest drains to a channel that has no additional storm water allowed; the site itself drains to twin or single 54" pipe which is insufficiently sized for the current use. RSA is designing a detention structure, which will be one facility staged into two different sections, expanding as the hospital expands, to service both parcels. We have used our local knowledge of approved systems to allow the use of high-density polythene pipe as a manifold. We were also able to obtain early approval for a foundation permit to facilitate the earlier construction and foundation plans for the Imaging Center.
