DeMatei Corporation of Marin County has owned the Redwood Plaza for over 30 years and has operated primarily as a grocery center with adjacent shops. Redwood Plaza has seen many changes, the foremost being two building additions adjacent to and across from Vallergas Market during the 1970's. The Redwood Plaza Remodel Project aimed at updating the style and character of the marketplace as well as the addition of a 7000 square foot commercial building. This project presented multiple challenges from a design and engineering perspective. In all, this required a coordinated striping and roadway design per CalTrans design criteria, right of way dedication exhibits and legal descriptions and coordination with the architect on exact building siting. The property lies on the last portion of the Solano Avenue storm drain system; RSA made every effort to tie into and use the existing storm drain structure. Lastly, RSA was able to work directly with the Napa Sanitation District on site during the design phase to eliminate the requirement for a grease interceptor unit. This proactive approach led to a significant cost savings and preservation of landscaped areas.
