dry creek estate

Location: Napa, California
Builder: Pat Abernathy
Architect: Kennedy & Kennedy

This project evolved into the creation of a major estate home in the vineyard-studded hills around the Napa Valley. RSA started by conceptualizing the project with the owner. When we started the project the most desirable location for an estate building site consisted of two rolling hills with no flat spaces. We suggested that the tops of the hills be leveled to the same elevation and the valley between them be filled with the crep created from the excavation. The end result was a beautiful, level pad 80 feet above the Napa Valley vineyards, where cool putting greens and extensive lawns now surround the large estate.

The access road was gracefully snaked through new vineyards and along an existing pond, creating a most inviting entrance to the estate. At the start of the work we interconnected two existing ponds on the property to eliminate an energy-consuming pumping system, and instead rely on gravity equalization piping to give the owner the most benefit of the collection from yearly runoff.
