This luxurious five-star resort, which is currently open while under the final phase of construction, required the design of an on-site wastewater disposal system approved by the Regional Water Quality Control Board in order to be permitted. The packaged plant approved for the project is a Fixed Activated Sludge Treatment (FAST) system that uses diffused bubble aeration and a fixed media to treat the wastewater.
The disposal system incorporated the existing gravity-flow leach field, and also required the design of an additional engineered pressure distribution disposal field. The treatment and disposal system for the Calistoga Ranch Resort has a capacity of more than 20,000 gallons per day, which also makes this the largest wastewater disposal system that RSA has designed to date. The Fire Department required the fire sprinkler service to be provided with back up power in case of emergency after installation of the piping and pumps had taken place. Rather than install an $80,000 generator, we designed a cross connection between the domestic and fire system to meet their requirements. In doing so, we saved the owner approximately $75,000.
